Bully For Mastiff Sperm

Family Court Judge Cheryl Matthews was looking for Ashton Kutcher, assuming that she was to be "Punk'd" when a divorced couple showed up in her courtroom Wednesday morning with this question -- who gets the dog sperm?

Karen and Anthony Scully were hobby breeders until their divorce in 2002. When they split up, they also split up their six bullmastiffs: he kept four of them and she took two with her to Florida. Karen Scully, who lives in Florida, and her ex-husband, Anthony Scully of Oakland County, are feuding in Oakland County Circuit Court, presided overt by Matthew, over who owns semen belonging their three, AKC-registered bullmastiffs. Furthermore, both continue to raise bullmastiffs.

Judge Matthews, an admitted dog lover, ruled that it was not a divorce matter and told the couple they would have to fight it out in civil court. The case has been assigned to Oakland County Circuit Judge Leo Bowman.

Tell me what do you think.

A Water Bowl A Girl Could Love

Do you remember when Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods poured water for her Chihuahua, Bruiser, in Legally Blonde? It was right before she walked into the hallowed halls of Harvard Law School to begin her new life as a serious law school student. I always loved that scene, because Elle had a water bowl to match her outfit.

Over the years, I have looked for a really cute water bowl, but had yet to find one... until now. BowhausNYC. a new pet accessory line, makes adorable collapsible bowls. These vintage cuties open up into a bowl and fold back like a wallet. Perfect for your purse, travel bag or just snap it around your leash. Black waterproof liner and natural leather trim, which will develop a tan patina over time. Available in four different prints and two sizes (S & L). Matching carrier, too!

Moreover, SOS from Trappe, MD was the first to respond after receiving the Charlotte's Web newsletter. As a result, she won this great bowl from BowhausNYC. To view their collection of sophisticated pet products click here. And to sign-up for Charlotte's Web, write to newsletter@charlottereed.com.

Dogs Heal

Unlike most folks, I never really sleep late. The responsibilities of animals always call so early in the morning. And yes, on Sunday morning too. Usually, when doing daily chores on Sunday, I treat myself to a listen of the telly but generally, I listen half-heartedly. But last Sunday, I was intrigued by a preview of a dog story on CBS so I didn't change the channel and I listened up. To my amazement, I even took a break from my Dyson. And just like Brooke Shields in the 80's...nothing comes between me and my Dyson.

In his report, CBS columnist discussed how getting a dog is the answer to not only the recession but works as a remedy to life's woes. Mr. Stein first got a dog when he moved to New York City because he was lonely. I didn't picture him as a Weimaraner or Short-Haired Pointer man but then, again most people never think of me as Jewish. Additionally, in his report, he mentioned adopting a dog from a shelter. Good Man

I really should have you watch the story for yourself here .

Attn: All Pet Rock-N-Rollers

Yesterday, I found this picture up, near the masthead of the New York Times. (It has since been replaced by a picture Tiger Woods, an ad for the Masters.) The picture looks as if Neil is driving down the road with his companion pet, a Golden Doodle. Moreover, once you clicked on the picture, it beams you over to his new website for his new album, Fork in the Road. I didn't sample all the songs but it seems as if Neil is back. Well, at least back for me. The album is cool.

I first met Neil Young via mutual friend, Tim Drummond. It was in the time of the Shocking Pinks. He was younger; Hell, I was younger. The meeting happened after the concert. The friend with me said that I just glowed in his presence. Light emerged from my whole body. I said, "What do you expect? I was in love-with him. I also remember I really enjoyed drinking my long neck, Budweiser beer that night. The way I remember it, was that it was the coldest and yummiest beer that I have ever drank.

If you have a chance, thank him for me. I never had the chance to thank him for Rust Never Sleeps, one of my all time favorite album's.

Love and Kisses,

Char

Top 10 Cat-Friendly Cities

That's me with my Himalayan, Harrison. Many folks think of me as just a dog owner but I am also the proud owner of three cats. And that is why am interested in this recent information that I received from the American Veterinary Medical Association about the formation of the CATalyst Council, a coalition of the veterinary community, academia, nonprofits, industry and animal welfare organizations.

In March, the organization named Tampa, Phoenix, San Francisco, Portland (Ore.), Denver, Boston, Seattle, San Diego, Atlanta and Minneapolis as the Top 10 Cat-Friendly Cities in the United States.

What makes a cat-friendly city? The love and care cats receive, says the CATalyst Council. Moreover, the list was compiled after reviewing the top 25 standard metropolitan areas for such data as cat ownership per capita, level of veterinary care, microchipping and cat-friendly local ordinances.

Furthermore, the organization wants to recognize and celebrate that cats are popular pets. Although dogs have long been called man's best friend, recent data suggests that cats are the country's number one companion pet. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association's 2007 U.S. Pet Ownership & Demographics Sourcebook, the number of cats owned is 81.7 million and amount of dogs owned is 72 million; cat outnumber dogs by nearly 10 million amongst the pet-owning public. In additon to the rise of the cat population, the AVMA reported that cat visits to veterinarians decreased approximately 11% between 2001 and 2006. Lastly, a 2006 survey by the Society of Animal Welfare Administrators (SAWA) showed that animal shelters are seeing more cats given up than dogs.

As a cat owner, I must emphasize that it is extremely important for every pet, including cats, to see their veterinarian regularly. Ensuring your cat's health through regular veterinary visits is of utmost importance.

Get Caught in My Web

I am excited to announce the re-launch of my highly followed, “Charlotte’s Web” FREE newsletter beginning Wednesday, April 2, 2009.

As a newsletter for people with pets, “Charlotte’s Web” provides readers with recommendations for new, cool and my favorite pet products in an entertaining online form. Unlike other pet newsletters, “Charlotte’s Web” is dedicated to finding pet-must haves for dogs, cats, birds and other small animals.

Currently, pet owners are worried about the economy. They are clipping coupons, cutting back and looking for ways to save energy and simplify their lifestyle with a less is more attitude, but they still enjoy spoiling their four-legged family members. Moreover, the American Pet Products Association estimates that in 2009, pet consumers will spend $17.4 billion on pet food and $10.2 billion on pet products. Even with all this spending going on, I want to be sure they are spending their pet dollars wisely.

The re-launch of “Charlotte’s Web” is also a winning scenario for pet product manufacturers. The candid reviews, strong press following and giveaways are a manufacturers dream…free advertising to their target audience! The only request made of manufacturers is that they send one of “Charlotte’s Web” readers their “Charlotte’s Web” featured product.

Each Wednesday, I will showcase a pet product with a few witty words of wisdom. The first reader who emails me about the recently reviewed item, and provides their 411 (name, address, phone number and email), will win the product directly from the manufacturer!

To subscribe to “Charlotte’s Web," please sign-up at Newsletter@charlottereed.com.

Art for Dog Sake

Last weekend, I went to St. Louis with other members of the Metropolitan Dog Club. The purpose of our trip was to visit the Museum of the Dog.

Located in the historic 1853 Jarville House in West St. Louis County, Missouri, The Dog Museum is affiliated with the American Kennel Club. Gift donations of art continue to make this unique museum's collection one of the largest in the country. Artists in the collection include Kirsme, Wardle, Bristow, Landseer, Trood, Earl, Rosseau and others including Bernard above.

To my mild amusement, I was happy to see Christine Merrill paintings of the George and Barbara Bush's Springer Spaniel, Millie, relaxing on the South Lawn and George and Laura's Scotties, Barney and Mrs. Beasely. I wonder if Merrill will be painting the Obama's new puppy or is she strictly a Republican painter.

Moreover, our lovely group of ladies was fortunate to have a private tour with the museum's first director, William Secord, the world authority on 19th century dog painting and collectibles. What was so fabulous about the tour with Bill, was that not only did he discuss the specifics of the paintings, but he could provide us with the scoop about the donor and the donation.

With side trips to visit the Arch and the Missouri Botanical Gardens, the oldest in the country at 150 years of age, the trip was worth dealing with our unbelievable travel agent, who will be for be forever know as "Oh Diane!"

If you are ever in St. Louis, don't miss out. Drive the 22 miles or 30 minute trip out to the Dog Museum. I encourage you to leave a sirius, monetary donation.

But if you can't make it to St. Louis, stop by Bill's gallery at 52 East 76th Street, 3rd Floor, New York, New York 10021. It is a dog lover's dream. To learn more about the gallery, visit http://www.dogpainting.com/.

A Bride to Better Times

Although I am not a regular of Access Hollywood, I was happy to watch the interview with Jennifer Hudson last night. Considering the recent tragedy in her life, I was happy to see her looking so beautiful. She was glowing but then, again she is a blushing bride.

For those of you who do not know, Jennifer Hudson is marrying David Otunga, a reality TV star with an Ivy League education. He is good looking and went to Columbia and Harvard. I am not going to ask why he appeared on I LOVE NY-2 but that's his business. And, I'm sure that his mother probably regrets that too.

In Hudson's interview, she mentioned that she wanted her dogs, Oscar, Grammy and Dreamgirl to be in her wedding. She even mentioned that she wants to send them down the aisle dressed in a tux or a beautiful dresses.

In my book, The Miss Fido Manners Complete Book of Dog Etiquette, I devoted Chapter 9, entitled Four-Legged Wedding Guest, to this subject.
So here are a few tips for you Jennifer and other blushing brides who want to their dogs to take part in their special day.

1. If you are working with a wedding planner, discuss how you would like to incorporate your dogs into your wedding day at your initial consultation. I am sure she or he has heard this idea before.

2. At your wedding, your dog should be able to walk niceily down the aisle, sit and stay for pictures, not jump on guests and not bark thru the ceremony. For a refresher course in doggy wedding manners, browse the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (www.apdt.com), the International Association of Canine Professionals (www.dogpro.org) and the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors (www.nadoil.org) to find a dog trainer near you.

3. To reduce the allergic reactions of your wedding party and guests to your dog, treat your pet with Allerpet to cleanse the hair of dander, saliva, and sebaceous glad secretions (www.allerpet.com).

4. To find doggy wedding attire, search the www.doggieclothesline.com.

5. For a list of dangerous plants and flowers, review the Humane Society of the Unites States website at www.hsus.org.

6. Hire a petsitter or doggy escort for the day who can watch that your dog doesn't get into trouble, eat from the table or commit any other faux paws. The sitter can even take your pooch to the kennel after the ceremony so you can start your honeymoon immediately after the party.

To all of you blushing brides, good luck.

Meet the Breeds Comes to Town

The American Kennel Club and the Cat Fanciers' Association recently announced that on Saturday and Sunday, October 17th and 18th, 2009 at New York City's Javits Convention Center, they will showcase 160 AKC registered dog breeds and 41 CFA registered cat breeds as Meet the Breeds, a first stand-alone event of its kind in the world. The show is sponsored by PetPartners, Inc. a leading pet healthcare provider.

Since 2001, AKC Meet the Breeds has been held at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, drawing hundreds of spectators to the creatively decorated booths showcasing each AKC registered breed. The booths, created by national breed clubs, are decorated to depict the breed's country of origin, historical purpose or function, as well as to highlight that particular dog as a family pet.
This upcoming fall, responsible breeders and their dogs, puppies, cats and kittens will interact with the public to educate them about the various breeds and being a responsible pet owner. Additionally, various activities such as dog and cat grooming, Agility (dogs and cats), AKC Canine Good Citizen Testing, K-9 Search and Rescue and First Aid for dogs and cats will take place.

But of course, you can come and do more than watch and learn about the purebreds. For those seeking souvenirs or for those who love to shop, there will be a shopping area. Billed as just in time for the holiday season, you can shop until your heart's delight. Well, let's hope so, vendor space is priced at $2000.00 per booth.

Pet Writing Conference Wrap-Up

Next to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, the hottest (pet) ticket in New York City this past February was the first Business of Pet Writing Conference, held at the Radisson Martinique. With an international mix of pet writers, veterinarians, dog fanciers, animal behaviorists and other pet industry professionals, the conference has been lauded as a success. So much so, the conference is returning to the Big Apple for an “encore performance” on Saturday, February 6, 2010.

I was thrilled with this first conference. The feedback I’ve been getting has been in superlatives like "brilliant", "fabulous", and "fulfilling". We have a lot of people to thank for their participation, both on the sponsorship and presenter sides. It couldn’t have been better. I’m expecting next year’s conference to be triple in size.”

The conference hosted a myriad of respected professionals from both the publishing and pet industries. Seasoned and aspiring writers were given valuable information about how to effectively navigate the business of pet writing. In addition to the impressive schedule of group presentations throughout the day, editors and agents made time to meet with conference participants individually.

After seeing such enthusiasm at the pet writing conference, I'm looking forward to an even more successful event in 2010 and urge pet writers to sign up early. Furthermore, in 2010, there will be limited seating. Early bird registration will commence in June with a discount cost of $150.00 until September 1st. The price of the conference is $175.00.

For further information and/or to become a conference sponsor for 2010, I can be reached at (212) 631-3648. To see details about the first conference, go to www.petwritingconference.com.

Dog Writers Association of America

The Dog Writers Association was established on February 13, 1935 in the Westminster Kennel Club's meeting room in the old Madison Square Garden at Eighth Avenue and Fiftieth Street. At that time, thirty writers, editors and publishers decided to set dues and hold a yearly meeting in New York City just before the annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. The Sunday night dinner has become a tradition to which so many dog writers look forward.

Prior to the year's dinner, The Dog Writers Association of America elected a new President. After a very heated election season, Deb Eldredge, DVM emerged as winner and champion. She assumed the Presidency with Susan McCullough as Vice-President, Liz Palika as Secretary.

In a very short time, she seems to be creating a very dynamic organization. She has encouraged participation. Finally, board members are given assignments and the organization seems to be headed in the "write" direction.

Good Deed Undone

Aspen Pet Products donated and delivered 1,000 meals to their local Humane Society. The Colorado society had to throw away 98 percent of its food supply due to the Menu Foods recall. The Company hopes to encourage other pet product companies (locally and nationally)to get involved with this crisis.

Letters to Valued Customers

Another Letter

Dear Valued PetSmart customer:

As you have probably heard, Menu Foods, a national manufacturer of pet foods, issued a voluntary recall of canned and pouched wet dog and cat food manufactured in two of its facilities between December 2006 and March 2007. Again, this is a recall of a specific type of wet pet food made by Menu Foods. Other wet pet foods and all dry pet food and treats are not impacted by this recall.

Menu Foods initiated the recall after receiving reports that some of its foods may be the cause of reported illnesses and kidney failure in dogs and cats. Menu Foods distributes these products to supermarkets, mass merchandisers and pet specialty stores, including PetSmart®, under a variety of brand names.

Click here to see a complete list of PetSmart products that are part of the recall, as well as their respective UPCs (also referred to as the bar code). The bar code can be found on the product label; the UPC is under the series of bars. As a reminder, the items listed are the only items that PetSmart carries that have been affected by the recall.

In the meantime, we have pulled all recalled products from our store shelves and have a process in place to help ensure they're not restocked or distributed in any way. The brands and products currently on our shelves are considered safe.

If you have purchased any of the recalled items, you should discontinue use immediately. We recommend you contact your vet if you have any concerns that your pet may have been affected. Symptoms may include:

Vomiting (this is usually the first sign)
Refusal to eat
Fatigue
Abnormal increase in water consumption
Abnormal increase in urination
If you're interested in finding out more about what kinds of tests vets recommend to make a diagnosis, click here.

Additionally, if you are looking for a recommendation for your unique pet food needs, please visit our Smart Nutrition Selector on our website. Or, if you need additional assistance while in the store, feel free to ask an associate. If you know of any other pet parents that are in search of more information, please share this with them.

If you have food that is a part of the recall, you can bring it back to PetSmart for a complete refund. Or, we'll exchange your items with any dry food or alternative canned or foiled pouched wet foods that we have in stock.

Please remember, this recall affects only specific wet pet food items. All dry pet food and treats are not impacted by this recall.

Skinny Owner, Overweight Pet

These days, if you want to sell it, sell it with a dog. Jonathan Adler, an interior designer and potter, can be found in the Sharpe Aquos flat screen tv ad with his Norwich Terrier. In 1999, Jonathan with his partner, Simon Doonan, adopted Liberace. Liberace is about 8 years of age. From checking out the size of his dog, Jonathan needs to spend a little less time thinking about color but more time thinking about the health of his dog. The cutie is a tad overweight. Jonathan, I am not ragging on you but my senior pet needs to trim down too.So, we are going to send you a fitness guide for your Liberace.

PS. For you curious folks, Liberace is seen on one of Jonathan Adler's dog pets. The custom order dog beds come in two sizes:small at $97 and large at $112.00. They are stuffed with a poly-fill. Order either in any of his Graphic Wool patterns and in any of his wool color combinations. For pattern options, click for the Graphic pillows section.

Just Like Everyone Else

What a concerned pet parent is Orlando Bloom! The hottie was recently photographed picking up his dog, Sidi from his London vet. Good boy, Orlando.
To learn more about the veterinary health profession, check out www.avma.org.

Keeping it in the Family

I love this Phatfarm family ad. Look at Ms. Kimora holding her favorite pooch, little, black Zoe. Kimora who has dogs, cats, birds, hermit crabs and fish, travels extensively with Zoe and Beluga, her Toy Poodle. She is a lot like American Express...she doesn't like to leave home without them.

It's all about control and a little luck

Serena Williams admitted to People Mag in the March 19th issue that her Jackie Russell, Jackie, is a pushy bitch. Miss Serena also mentioned that she is not allowed in pets stores because she will always come out with another dog. Does that mean that Laurelei, her Maltese, is an impulse purchase? Is Serena destined to become another pet collector like Paris? It is obvious that she needs a little help with the dogs...Last month, it was reported on Page 6 that Serena left open the terrace door of The Bryant Park Hotel Suite and the pair jumped over a planter and entered the room of another hotel guest. Just like Goldilocks, the two were found sleeping on his bed. Morale of the story: Consider yourself lucky, that the two didn't jump off the terrace and were found sleeping on the sidewalk.

Misstep with Fresh Step

Friends and family call me "Bleach". That's cuz I'm devoted to Chlorox. And there are occasions lately, when I use the Chlorox product, Fresh Step Crystals. Not my brand of choice but they sell the bag in my Associated Supermarket on Mulberry Street. And I am addicted to crystals. I am a cat owner too or should I say three; Harrison, Hayden and Hamilton-the three Himalayans. CFA ranked cats. Get the picture. But dear Chlorox, you to be kidding me with this new Fresh Step campaign. A cat holding its crotch and the slogan that reads "It is hard to find your litter box if you can't smell it." So tell me, what is the meaning of your newest ad? Are you telling me and the millions of cat owners that cats are so stupid that their litterboxes have to stink for them to remember where their litterboxes are? Hmmm. Another thought...If I use your products, my box will be so clean and odor free but then, there is the possiblity that I might have the misfortune of having an inappropriate elimination problems with my cats because they could potentially forget where to find their litterboxes. Then, of course, there is the potential bladder problem to deal with since my cat or should I say yours, is "holding" it. If you have any comments for me, you know where to find me.

Frenchies Love Their Cesar

In the recent Cesar Canine Cusine campaign, management has traded up from the Westie, the Papillion, the Daschund, for the very popular French Bull Dog. Cesar pet food comes in 15 mouth watering flavors and most importantly, has not been affected by the Menu Food pet food recall.

Goodnight Gracie

Indie Princess Parker Posey has a BFF, Gracie. Gracie is her Poodle mix. Parker and Gracie are in photographed in the April issue of Luckymagazine Although Posey is recognized for her downtown fashion sense, appearing as a judge in the finale in Project Runway- Season 1, she darns not to dress or adorn Gracie in style. I think Gracie needs a care package with some fun, retro looks. My mission this week...find some cool things for Gracie.

Keds loves Dogs

Ziggy Stardust and Charlie, the dogs of actress Mischa Barton, are featured in her new ad campaign with the 85 year old sneaker brand. Although you will see new pooch, Ziggy in most the featured shots, browse around the site and you will see that Charlie got equal face time.

An four-legged escort to the celebrities

Oh to be carefree, gallant and nonchalant. Those are the characteristics of the loveable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog. So, if you are a Cavalier King Charles dog lover, you will be happy to know that US magazine did a little report on this lively dog. See the April 2nd issue on page 73. Other than Courtney Cox (Hooper & Harley), Mischa(Charlie) and Jennifer-Love(Charlie), so many celebrities have this dog breed. That picture by the way, is Amanda Byrnes with Midge. But what US didn't report is that it appears that the celebrities like Liv Tyler(Neal), Nancy and Ronald Reagan (Rex), Mary Hart(Pumpkin), Paulina Porizkova(Dexter), Queen Victoria (Dash), Diane Sawyer (Lila), who have this great pooch appear to be very happy, lively and confident individuals. Think about it! Look who has or has or had a Chihuahua-Madge, Britney, Jenny from the Block, Paris...

No Pets Allowed

Promises Rehabilition Centers located in Malibu and West Hollywood has a no pets allowed policy but obviously, the center bent another of their rules for Pop Tart, Britney Spears. Before leaving the facility, Spears was toting her Chihuahua, Snow White, all over the place. Just goes to show you, she needed to hold on to something while in therapy. Let's just hope that she doesn't chuck this fair maiden like she did of Lucky, Lucy and Bit-Bit. Rumor has it that Kevin made her get rid of the dogs because they didn't like him and becuase her ill-mannered the dogs were not housebroken and pooped all over the mansion's floors. And of course, with children crawling around that would make for some messy, smelly children. Good luck Snow White we are pulling for you. We really hope you survive the wicked queen.

Smile for Prizes

Throughout the month of April, the Planet Dog Company Store will be collecting entries for their first “Smilers Contest” in conjunction with The Bark magazine.
The five finalists’ pictures will be sent to the editors of The Bark, who will select the grand-smile winner. Winners will receive several prizes, including placement of their picture in the coveted “Smiler’s Circle” on the cover of The Bark. Other prizes include a year’s subscription to the magazine, a “Dog is my co-pilot” T-shirt and bumper sticker, and fame in our local doggie community.

Cat Consideration

While on the red carpet and beautifully dressed in blue, Jodi Foster, could think of no one else expect the new, little bundle of joy in her life. She admnitted that she spent some time during the day enjoying a shopping spree. Actually, she was not shopping for herself but her a new kitty cat, Jedi. Just so you know folks, Jodi shops at Petco.

Legal Blonde on Broadway

Omigod, Elle Woods and Bruiser coming to Broadway. I am not so sure about this one. Who can replace Reese and Moonie, the Chihuahua. Any way, if I go, I am only going to see the wonderful work of Broadway Animal Trainer, Bill Berloni. If you click here and wait patiently thru some of the scenes, you will have the opportunity to watch Margo and Bruiser in action, conversing about Elle. Fine work Bill!

Prevent Another Loss-Collar Me Up

It seems that People magazine included a picture of Jennifer Aniston, post 38th birthday bash, walking alone on the beach with her two dogs, Dolly and Norman. But Dolly was leashed up, I guess like Brad, she doesn't come when called. Or maybe she is keeping a tight reign on Dolly so that Norm and Dolly will not wander off and leave her. Alas, life lessons learned from dogs.

The Claws of an Editor

Bravo's newest reality competition series “Top Design” offers a behind the scenes look at the creative and competitive interior designers. Once again, the Bravo formula includes three judges who each week opine about the designed creations of the interior designers. One such judge is the Editor in Chief of Elle Decor Magazine, “Top Design” judge Margaret Russell.

A few weeks ago on the show, one designer was told to create a bedroom for a child client with who owned a cat. During the judging Ms. Margaret told this young, male designer, "You can't just design a room around a cat." Meeee-oooow! Was she ever wrong. How many cat owners or rather pet owners buy or design a home or apartment around their pets? Wake up Margearet, alot! But I have to admit, what you said to NY Magazine's Beth Landerman ( March 5, 2005-p.12) was very amusing, which was, "I don't want to be remembered as the person who hates cats. It will probably wind up on my tombstone."

So, I am going to send you a little present. in the mail. I hope you like.

Usher-NOT OFF THE MARKET YET

This is a morning for ATL news. I just read in US Magazine that Usher is engaged to long time, ATL hottie. I met her once with Usher and she seems like a sweet girl. I met them both when Usher and I were doing The View. I must admit I was shocked that for such a big, big star, Usher was so sweet and nice. His mother raised him right. Very personable and ladies, he is even an animal lover. Clay Aiken with his pooch was there too. Just so you know, he's not such a big star and not so nice. I was extremely unimpressed. I guess he was worried that JOY would ask him abut his sexual preference.

Kym Rocks It Out Doggie Style

This morning I was having an email exchange with my ATL homegirl, Kym, better know as The Celebrity Dog Watcher. If you haven't seen her site, check her site out
here. High snaps to Kym because the NY Post, is keeping it real, using her up to the minute information and photos about celebrities and their dogs.

Representing My Peeps

You learn something new everyday. And tonight I learned that Leslie Hunt is a Chicagoland dog walker. For those of you who do not know, I own Two Dogs & A Goat Incorporated, a quality pet care service in New York City. So I gotta support my peeps. Although I love the Carole King's "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" but the rendition by Aretha Franklin, I didn't like Leslie's spunky version. But don't fear girl. There is always tomorrow and another song. And take that to the Dawg pound.

Blonde Bunnies Have Fun with Dogs

Either you love him or you are just plain jealous of big dawg Hugh Hefner. In his silver-haired years, there is alot of action going on at that the Playboy Mansion. His three hot girlfriends all love dogs and a cat named Gizmo. They have parties for them, have the groomer and the dentist come in, and like all good hot mamas they worry about their furkids. The Problems with Alligators, Birds and Others on Business Trips

Increasing numbers of people are taking pets on business trips. But imagine the challenge when the animal is not the typical dog or cat. Of course, most business travel with animals does not involve alligators. The most common traveling animal is the pet dog, and then the cat, though cats are notorious for finding hiding spots in hotel rooms, usually at checkout time. Birds fly, but they are not especially good at being flown. Most people who travel professionally with birds, go almost exclusively by car.

Rich Bitch Fights for Spotlight

Seems that the fur continues to fly in Palm Beach. The Insider dug-up some old dirty on an old rivarly in Palm Beach. It seems that Chrissy Santi, a 13-year-old long-haired Chihuahua, who is known to wear $18, 000 worth of diamonds and sapphire, is the rival for the Lulu Pontarelli, the editor of the Palm Beach Pet Society. It started when Lulu couldn't compete in the Doscars, a local competition in which the most posh canines strut their stuff, because she is the editor of the magazine. Chrissy won for her rendition of "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend." Oh Bark! That's okay old girl, you are still hot to trot.

Spoiled, Rich Pets

One of the best-selling books in Palm Beach is Palm Beach Pet Society, a photo array of the resort town's most pampered pets and their owners. Retailing for $20 (proceeds go to local animal charities), the 140-page coffee-table book was published by Palm Beach Society magazine, which flew in New York pet photographer Jim Dratfield. Among the photos: portraits of female cats and dogs wearing an estimated $16 million to $20 million worth of bling borrowed from local jewelry outlets, among them Tiffany and Chopard. Males were shot "driving" luxury vehicles.

A Dog Can't Leave Italy without a Health Test

Americans living in Naples who want to fly their dogs home on commercial airliners must first get their pets tested for leishmaniasis, a disease spread by the bite of an infected sand fly, before a pet passport will be issued, officials said. The law is an effort to curtail the spread of the sometimes-fatal illness to other countries. The sand fly thrives in the heat and has been a problem for troops serving in the Middle East. Leishmaniasis affects the skin; the mouth, nose and throat and which can disfigure; and the internal organs. Left untreated it can be fatal. Symptoms in dogs include hair loss on the rims of the ears or scaling and crusting of skin on their noses, Price said.Dogs should wear what is called a Scalibor collar between the peak season of April through October. The collars are available at Italian pharmacies and at the base vet clinic. Dogs infected with the disease should wear the collars year-round.
It’s better to treat infected dogs in Europe because diagnosis and treatment are more effective than in the States, where the disease is not as prevalent.
Cats don’t seem to be attacked by sand flies and do not require the test. Learn more about it here.

Three Dumb Blonds

Celebrity stylist, Ken Paves, created clip-in hair extensions (Hairdo™) that Jessica Simpson wears every day. He’s made it so easy for Jessica that she just clips these hair extensions in and go. I really doubt that she can do it herself. Now, Jessica and her fans can change their hair as often as they change their mind. Just a quick question, Jessica: Does your walker offer extension for dogs too? consider having him coif your Maltipoo, Daisy, she always looks shabby and I ain't talking about no shabby chic. Look for Jessica, Daisy and her necessary companion, Ken Paves and on HSN.Com January 16th and 17th. For more information, call 1-866-980-5377 or visit her hair site.

Doggie Fashion Whore

Famke Janssen says she became a "doggie fashion whore" and that she treats Licorce, her Boston Terrier, just like a baby. She admits that she is consumed by "Lick" and she can't wait to dress Lick in his cashmere and take him for a walk. Cashmere sweaters, raincoats, collars, and leashes to match - from Prada to Burberry's." Check out her on video at the Peta website discussing her new ad for the controversial organization.

Practice Makes Perfect NOTO

After a shopping trip to Kitson, NOTO, as I like to call Tori Spelling, was seen pushing Mimi La Rue in a Walk-n-Roll pet stroller. NOTO is five months pregnant and can no longer carry the heavy Pug. Pet Strollers are great and I use one for my 15 year old, American Cocker Spaniel, Kidder that has alot of trouble walking. But for pet owners they are great for eating out; getting your dog out and about, especially if he is old or sick. Personally, I prefer the petgear stroller. Visit www.petgear.com.

Ruff News For Heather Mills McCartney

Although it is reported that Heather is getting death threats as a result of her battles with Sir Paul but her dog, Dolly, has also injured her right leg. Like mother, like dog. As so many of you know, Heather lost her leg in 1993 in a motorcycle accident but I bet you didn't know that Heather also also recently launched a new campaign to stop the terrible international trade in cat and dog fur. Go girl and by the way, Happy Birthday to a fellow Capricorn.

An 80lbs Anorexic, Mary-Kate Olsen

Poor, frail and painfully thin Mary-Kate Olsen. I bet she can no longer walk her energic, adolscent dog, Luca. Some advice, MK. Share your secrets and anxieties with Luca. He can keep a secret and really doesn't care how you look as long as you continue to love and feed him. Recognize that if you continue to stay so thin, he will not be able to enjoy your company. Trust your in him, he will guide you thru your times of trouble. Good thing you got rid of that eating coach. Look to Luca for help. Labradors love to eat.

Dolls Have Dogs

A little more than a year ago, executives at the dollmaker American Girl created a character so compelling that parents will pay $86 for an 18-inch doll and a paperback book. Working from customer feedback culled from its magazine, Web and book-publishing empire, the company determined that the typical girl these days is dependable, athletic and loves animals. She is also completely overscheduled and stressed. See American Girl
But American parents, let's face facts. Why don't they create what little girls really want. A true American Doll. A rich, bottled blonde girl that has no desire to work because her parents give her everything including an American Express Gold Card, cell phone and of course, condone her practice of underage sex. She is only interested in marrying right of college and having a baby because is so modernly traditionally. Of course, she has an accessory dog that eats her shoes because she forgets to feed it and le petit chien pisses on her carpet because she refuse to walk it but only carry it a Juicy Couture carrying bag. Well, that's what my friends who own pet stores tell me.

Lookalikes that Dress A Like

I found this picture of Richard Beltzer and his dog in the in the NY post under the 2006 Celebrity Photos. They are both pale; have big eyes, noses and ears and are dressed a like. Do you look like your dog?

No Coated Canines

I spoke to my friend, Julie Abdu, the owner of Thayer and Ridge. She was upset because the weather is so warm and canines in the Northeast are not wearing coats. So, of course, pet stores are not re-ordering. Julie and her team, make a fine coat. And then of course, because she is my friend, I gave her a great idea. I told her to spent her time this summer marketing her wares to pet boutiques where the winters are bad like Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and other states with blizzard like conditions (i.e: Colorado). And, to break out with a topper coat, a lite-weight winter coat for dogs who are living in the Northeast. I bet she does it because if I do say so myself, I got great fucking ideas. Dog Owners Stay Away From Finland

Various studies that suggest that dog owners have lower blood pressure or report fewer doctor visits and better mental health. Well, not in Finland. Leena K. Koivusilta and Ansa Ojanlatva, two researchers at the University of Turku, looked through data collected in a health survey of 21,101 Finns. They found that the pet owners looked, if anything, sicker than pet-free people. Pet owners were more likely to suffer from illnesses that included high blood pressure, high cholesterol, ulcers, depression and kidney disease. They smoked more (though drank less) than people who did not own pets. Dog owners were also fatter. In sum, in Finland, pet owners tended to be poorer, less educated and older, and those factors, rather than pets, probably explain the health disparity. The study information can be found here.

Inotherwords, don't take your pet to Finland because you will lose your money and education and get fat to combat the cold. But Helinski is beautiful. Weigh your options carefully.

Rub Us Both

The Ritz-Carlton (Sarasota) offers the privileged pup pet massage services/lessons for $130.00 plus the $125.00 non-refundable room deposit. Florida law says veterinary procedures -- including massages -- must be done in a vet's office unless it is for educational purposes. So Spa Director, Darlene Davison, and five other dog-certified spa employees use the hour to demonstrate Swedish, sports or relaxation massage techniques to dog owners. For another $220, the Ritz throws in gourmet dog biscuits, an in-room pet massage, a choice of nail buffing or nail polish, a souvenir photo, a brisk walk over Sarasota's scenic Ringling Bridge and a gourmet meal of organic stew and designer water served on a silver tray. Although I am quoted in the article, I would spend $250 or more to get us both rubbed down together. Imagine looking over and seeing your pet enjoying the same massage services as you. That would be fun!

Hoard and Save

City Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden, has launched a new crusade: cracking down on "animal hoarding". The anti-hoarding program is a joint effort that includes reps from the Health Department, the mayor's alliance for animals, the ASPCA and the Animal Control Center. Rescued animals are brought to center for medical treatment, spayed and neutered and put up for adoption. The program is funded through The Fund for Public Health and the Regina B. Frankenberg Foundation.

Since the program was launched last year, health and animal-protection workers have investigated 94 homes, said Allison Cardona, ASPCA chief hoarding prober.
The shocking discoveries include:
* 100 cats in one house on Staten Island.
* 70 cats in a Queens apartment.
* 30 dogs in a Bronx apartment.
* 26 poodles in a Brooklyn apartment.

Rescuers said the hoarders are not intentionally committing animal cruelty. Citizens are urged to report hoarders to 311 or the ASPCA at (212) 876-7700.

Comment: I spoke to a hoarder once. He called me from Columbia Presbyterian hospital. He got Cat Scratching Fever from feeding colony of feral cats. He needed a pet sitter to go to his house in New Jersey and feed his 50 cats and 9 dogs. I found someone to help him. The condition at his home were not deporable; it was tidy but he did not have any furniture and slept on a small bed. He couldn't have much more than that because the animals destroyed everything including his life. He was a notable lecturer that was one time financially sound but then he started to save pet lives and he got lost. I tried to help him place the cats but he just couldn't bare to give the animals away. I hope that programs like this can help people like him. Thumbs up to New York City, the greatest city in the world.

Six Toe Trouble in Key West

The American novelist Ernest Hemingway lived in Key West for a decade in the 1930s, with his wife, Pauline, and a six-toed cat named Snowball. Although Hemingway divorced Pauline in 1939, Snowball stayed on. Today, about 50 of Snowball's descendants roam the grounds, to the delight of many tourists who visit the Hemingway Home and Museum but not to museum neighor, Debbie Schultz, and the federal government.

Although Hemingway wrote most of his novels in Key West, including To Have and Have Not and A Farewell to Arms, many tourists come just to see the cats. Key West is known as much for its zany festivals and eccentric charm as it is for its cats. Cats arrived in Key West long ago with visiting sea captains, who employed them as shipboard rat catchers. Today, cats wander Key West.

Much of the dispute revolves around the wanderings of Ivan, an orange tomcat born in 2004. Neighbor, Debbie Schultz, who complained about the Hemingway cats is a former official at the local animal shelter who lives four doors away from the museum. According to Schultz, Ivan the cat wreaks another type of havoc on the cat population that lived outside the museum wall. She says that Ivan is an unneutered, macho male cat, that stops by a feeding station she keeps for neighborhood cats and he bulls and pins downs the street cats. She notes that Key West has an ordinance that a nuisance cat can be removed. Although Schultz says she took Ivan to the animal shelter six times, museum representatives "bail him out," each time.

When the museum decided that they did not want Schultz prowling around their grounds to capture their cats her spay and neuter program, she called the USDA.

Opinion: Sounds like a little neighborly revenge. Just remember Debbie, a cat has nine lives but you don't.

Are you still serving the Sugar Pie?

I have never been an Anna Nicole Smith fan. As far as I'm concerned, she is a low class scandal that won't die. Did you ever she the documentary about her family and past lovers. Real white trash. Please know that I do feel bad that her son died and especially how he died. What ashame! But is her grief so overwhelming or important that ET has to report it every single day. I guess ET has no other celebrity news. So, I guess that they continue to bore us with Anna Nicole. If they are going to continue to bore me, serve me up some Sugar Pie. For those of you who don't know, Sugar Pie is Anna's Toy Poodle. I have one question, how is the dog handling the grief of Daniel's death? I'm sure Sugar Pie is grieving quietly and in seclusion. See dogs, do teach us life lessons. Maybe, Anna's old dog can teach her some new tricks

Crowning Glory

In the world of fashionable accessories and luggage, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Prada scream, whereas Goyard only whispers. Founded in 1853 as a maker of trunks, the Company has outfitted grand dukes, moguls, movie stars and the chien of the elite with luggage over the decades. The Company shuns advertising and employs no well-known designers. The company's low-key approach suggests that to boost brand image, there's an alternate path to the marketing strategy of most luxury companies. Next year, Goyard plans to open a new Paris store for pet accessories, offering such items as a $1,970 collapsible dog bowl. Goyard bags can be monogrammed with initials, colorful stripes or other symbols which buyers may want but it "crowns" luggage for royalty only. Do you think think Queen Elizabeth, Marie-Chantal of Greece, King Albert of Monaco, Princess Michael of Kent will order the water bowl for their dogs? Since I have a Prince Charles and a King Charles, I will most definitely be order one. And yes, I have the papers to prove it. That is our royal lineage.

In Defense of Britney-

Britney Spears was voted America's worst pet owner by the readers of New York and Hollywood Dog magazines. Give me a break! Britney, a bad dog mama, because she is no longer toting her pooches around the town. Darhlings, priorities change and hers have. Once she toted that dog, Kevin, around; he pissed all over her. And now, she is Paris's new bitch. Have you ever noticed Paris' as a lot of bitches but she can't keep a three-legged dog. Britney History Lesson: For those of you who don't know the history.... Bit-Bit hated Kevin and would always try to bite him. the dog was a better judge of character. Did she get rid of the dog? No, she made a compromise in her marriage and left the dog(s) at home. As I am sure you know, she has two children. So, is going to carry the dog and the babies in her arms together? We saw what happened when she tried to carry a cup of Joe and the baby or was it, Jamba Juice or Red Bull, the drink that she made so popular? Frankly, if she prefers to live her life in the tabloids, she needs Dr. Phil. If she lives in Hollywood, Kaballah seems to be the answer. Oh that's right it; she tried it. And if she wishes come to term with her self-esteem issues, she will check into a private hospital and get the help that she needs. Girl, Kevin gonnna do you in. He's gonna git some of your green with you actin all slutty and stuff. Put some draws on,(that's underwear for all you folks that don't know shit) and watch leave it to Beaver, Dennis the Menance, Patty Duke and Father Knows Best. Then, invite Florence Henderson over for some tea. Discuss what you saw but not on a reality tv show with her.

So I ask you, readers of New York and Hollywood Dog magazine, what do you think of NoTORIous? Tori been pimping herself and that Mimi La Rue, the Pug of hers at every opportunity. And her dog even has ho ho name. Mimi of The Street-think Eva La Rue. She was selling her bitches stuff at the yard sale. NoTo sold Mimi's old shampoo for $20.00 I am sure Mr. Big is rolling over in his grave at her performance, know as Lifetime. Perhaps, there is some reason he only gave you $750,00. Noto, please stop blaming your mother. Okay, so Candy is a freak. Alot of mother's are worse. Look at Joan Crawford's kids. History Lesson: If you don't know, NoTORIous believes that she is the unrecognized pre-Paris plus Tinks. Remember the shirt- My dog can beat up Tinkerbell-(What did I just tell you. And in your defense, Noto, you did make a charity charm bracelet. jewelry But let's face it. You cheated on your husband for a married man with children. Hells Bells Girls. I haven't seen Mimi for awhile either.

Favorite songs are Chase That Ball, Bad Dog and Dog About Town.

America's Blonde Bombshell Loves Dogs

Did you know Barbie® doll has a dog named Tanner™? This pooch is has a mouth, ears, and tail that move with your help! You can even “feed” Tanner dog biscuits! After the pup goes potty, just clean up with a special trash can and magnetic scooper. Good doggie!
(Forever Barbie at www.barbie.com)

My comment: So, I'm on the phone the other day with the Bob Vetere, the President of the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association and he tells me about Pooper Scooper Barbie. Frankly, I don't fucking believe it. Barbie is scooping up dog shit. No? For those So, I search the web and I find a picture. There is Barbie and she's with her dog. She looks like me: stylish, blonde and scooping up poop except I have four dogs and she only has one.
And last night, I'm watching the news and I see this woman talking about how Barbie is really making a come back. She tells the newscaster that the new Barbie is back to being cool and that she is buying her daughter one. So today, I decide to get the 411 about new Barbie. I call my friend, Cynthia, at Mattel and leave her a message to get me a BARBIE-complete with D-O-G. She's not there so I visit the Barbie website. And who would know that that Barbie is an animal lover. Barbie and her tweenie friends(See, TeenTrendGirls.com) have a lot of dogs. Cocker Spaniels, Maltese, Beagles, and a few mutts. And you can buy the dogs. And the dogs have accessories...like pet totes, toys, food bowls and much more. That is way cool. And what is even cooler, there is a African American Barbie and she has a dog too.
Okay, here's the big Mattel mistake. White Barbie has a yellow lab and Black Barbie has a chocolate lab. Just for your information. I saw the black Barbie on the Target website. But Mattel are you trying to tell me something. Should white people have lighter, colored dogs and black people have darker or black dogs. Would that mean some breeds that don't come in dark colors might not be available for black people? What about people like me- mixed. Would you give me a mutt? I think Mattel should hire me to consult about their Barbie pet line. They need a knowledgeable pet consultant in this area. I think that I could really help. And, if Mattel or their culturally correct consultants read this, feel free to call because I am going to send this post over to your pr and marketing firm. I could use a really fun job.

Tangled Up

Jessica Biel was spotted by the US Weekly staff trying to untangle her dog's leash while she was perusing the menu at Le Pain Quotidien in LA on November 17th. (See page 34 of the December 11, 2006 issue) She needs to read the Eating Out chapter of Miss Fido Manners Complete Book of Dog Etiquette to learn how to best eat out with Daisy, her pitbull.

Celebrity Pet Rant and Rave

So, I received an email from NG who gave me a good tip about celebrities and their pets. Check out www.celebritydogwatcher.com. I am hooked. Find out what bubblehead celebrity left her dog in the store? See Jessica Simpson with Daisy. Have you noticed that Daisy never wears a leash and collar or id tags? I think that I need to send Jessica a holiday present for her dog. I am waiting to get the scoop on Foxy Brown and Honey Child. Will their mama goes to jail or do another stint in rehab? Let's just wait and see. You go, Nicole. We love you dressed in your Missoni clothes. I want to know if Missoni makes dog sweaters. IF you know, write me back. I am going to ask those Missoni woman-three generation- and each one is as bad as she wantta bee.

North Shore Animal League America's DogCatemy Awards Gala

While at the event, I did an interview with Howard's producer, Lisa G. The interview was played early this week on Sirius. How did I find out that it aired? My old, college friend, Scott Schiable [owner of Quiet Spot (www.quietspot.com)], called from Denver and told me that he heard the interview. He thought that my comment about if Howard were a dog, he would be a Portugese Water Dog, was very funny. I believe this because Howard is lean and can wear his hair short and in tight curls or long and wavy-just like breed does.

PS. Look at Lisa Gastineau of The Gastineau Girls in the picture above. She looks hot. I told her that her daughter better watch out.

Canine Handbags and Other Fashion Faux “Paws”

I must admit-- I dress up my dogs. They’ve been to parties, and have earned their fair share of frequent flier miles traveling in designer handbags. And while I can say proudly that they’re quite fashionable, I’ve never mistaken them for fashion. That’s why I winced when I read Ruth La Ferla’s article “Woman’s Best Friend, or Accessory?” (New York Times, December 7, 2006).

As a dog owner and pet expert, I’m concerned about the cavalier- and I am not referring to the lovable purebred dog- attitude displayed by these pet owners when it comes to the major responsibility of owning a dog. Ladies, your dog is not the newest, Barbie doll marketed for single, 30 year-old plus woman who is in need of a social life. Your canine needs training, daily exercise, appropriate diet and canine companionship. To a dog, size and position matters, and spending too much time in a shoulder bag can interfere with development of normal social skills. And since you covet the stars, talk to Hillary Duff, she recently had this problem with her Chi Chi, Lola. Her prescription was to treat her dog like a dog. Take him out of the bag and walk him on a leash so that he knows his place.

The “nationwide trend towards smaller dogs” mentioned in La Ferla’s article is not without its own problems. Buyers’ willingness to purchase these tiny totes or toy breeds from pet stores or backyard breeders supports irresponsible breeding, resulting in increased incidences of eye, heart, liver problems and other health problems including producing more aggressive dogs. For those interested in how to care for your little dog, I refer them to my dear friend, Darlene Arden’s book, A Guide to Caring For Your Little Dog. (Howell Book House 2006). It is a good start.

La Ferla quotes Robin Bowden as saying of her dogs, “I think of them as a handbag with a heartbeat.” I had to wonder what will become of her dog when the season’s over and this particular style of “handbag” is no longer trendy. Will she shelf it for a more fashionable Rat Terrier, Lowchen or a Bich-Poo? Or maybe she will succumb to the new fashionista trend of selling her last seasons clothes on E-bay to purchase the newest, trendiest fashions. Either way, will this lonely, 40-something pet owner trade-up each season for a trendier breed model-all so she can stay in style and continue to meet new people?

Most of us dog owners, however, appreciate our dogs as more than just style. They are superb companions. It is this social aspect of dog ownership that makes them such a great fit for our lifestyle and our society—they think of us as part of their pack and we think of them as part of our family. So what if we do dress them well or dress them in matching outfits, buy them jewels, feed them gourmet food, show them off at the office on Take Your Dog to Work Day or display their pictures on our desk, and let them in our beds. We do these things because we love them and they become our family, especially for us single, upwardly mobile professionals with little time for a social life.

But herein, lies the problem. Despite all of our anthropomorphizing, dogs are not human beings. And even though they’re covered in fur, leather or lace, they’re not accessories. Unlike a fantastic pair of heels, dogs commit faux “paws”. They bark loudly when the doorbell rings. They potty on the floor at a friend's home. They cause allergic reactions for our office mates. They even, get on people’s nerves. Speak to Jim Breslin about this; he has written on the subject more than once. And although you may not be able to get over Smooshie Poo’s good manners while he sits on the chair next to you at Mercer Kitchen, the couple at the table next to you might find all the kissing less than appetizing. By the way, health ordinances in restaurants are there for a reason. And, I am sure Mercer Kitchen will thank the legally blonde pet owner for the visit from the health inspector today.

And for those of you whose manners have “gone to the dogs”, I believe it’s time for some pet etiquette. Pet etiquette is the art of understanding and behaving properly with your companion. Whether with a pet-owning neighbor, at the veterinarian’s office, or on the city streets, we, as dog owners, have to be well-mannered and model citizens. I recently wrote a book on the subject for that reason alone. The Miss Fido Manners Complete Book of Dog Etiquette will teach dog owners how to behave appropriately in all kinds of situations, making them model pet owners, a good neighbors, an excellent customers, an exceptional hosts, and a welcome guest sat the homes of friends and family. Specifically, dog owners like the ladies in this article will learn how to apply conventional manners (consideration of others, good table manners, gift-giving, being a considerate guest, getting along with co-workers) to life with your dog.

My new book is not a dog-training book. Instead, it explains why learning the right way to conduct yourself with your dog enables you to enjoy each other’s company and share more of your life with your pet. As a socially aware pet owner, this definitive guide can be used as a finishing school primer for your dog.

Please note that I will make sure the first copies of my upcoming book are autographed and sent to the badly behaved dog owners in the article including its writer, Ms. La Ferla.

My publicist, Amanda, recently sent me a note about this cool pet site. So if you love Frenchies-like my friend, Michael Campbell, owner of Doggie Styles in Beverly Hills- or are just a social conscious dog owner, check out www.gosococo.com. Their Good Karma leashes and collars and tees are just really cool. Think I'll be ordering one today.

To Parody or Piss on

A Las Vegas company called Haute Diggity Dog markets pet toys and trinkets, parodying famous brands in the process. Among the line of products at Haute Diggity Dog.com is “Sniffany & Co., Chewnel #5” and “Jimmy Chew.” Now a judge has ruled that the company can also keep producing Chewy Vuiton dog beds and chew toys, despite a complaint by Louis Vuitton Malletier, also known as LVM. In his ruling, the judge—apparently a dog lover, or at least someone with a good sense of humor—noted, “This dog of a case gave the court a great amount of facts to chew upon and applicable law to sniff out. Nonetheless, having thoroughly gnawed through the record, this Court finds that no material dispute of the fact remains…” Looks like LVM was barking up the wrong tree!

Mahaopac, New York resident, Cathy B. wrote to me to let me know that her 13 year old son makes his own homemade dog biscuits. The cookies are made with whole wheat flour, oats, wheat germ, eggs, milk and other natural ingredients. He has sold at fairs as well as at local pet stores. Her son, Chris, is working towards earning his college education. Just a word of advice Cathy: In your sales and marketing approach, let people know that dogs love Chris's cookies.

Holiday Pet Tips and other boring press releases

So, this week, I got a lot of press releases and most of them were boring. BORING. And very Boring. Puppy Hugger sent out a press release that was way, way, way too much language and not enough important content. Okay, so they launched a new website. BFD. What else have they done for pets and the industry lately? Next, Midnight Pass joined the APPMA. I like Brad W. He'd cool. He is like the mad professor of the pet industy always distributing kick-ass stuff for the industry and talking a mile a minute when he gets excited about his new products. High snaps for Brad W. The release listed his Company's accomplishments. Okay. At least, it was substantial listing. And lastly, I got a press release today about holiday pet tips.. What the Fuk. I got a Cancer Treatment Hospital in New York City talking about tips that the average Joe newscaster can write about and report on the news. Get some new pr people. This stuff is important but has seriously been posted everywhere for the last 5 years ago. I will say that of all the tips they provided I did like one that I want to share with you.....especially if you are a bread baker. So if you are baking bread or rolls and not those lame ass crescents like in the tv commercials, take heed from NYC Veterinary Specialists and their most unique tip.

"Bread Dough/Yeast -- Dogs may sneak some bread dough meant for holiday treats. In the process of rising, the dough expands in the stomach and the yeast produces ethanol. This can lead to severe problems including alcohol poisoning, stomach distension and potential torsion."

Oh, yeh and the on another note...the hospital is located across from Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre.

Yahoo Shopping Has New Pet Blogger

Yahoo! Shopping has a new pet blogger for the holidays, and it's me. This holiday season, I recommend buying your dog, cat and/or bird pet toys. Toys are great because they are fun for your pets but they can also provide hours of mental and physical stimulation.
So check out my choice picks at Yahoo! Shopping: http://shopping.yahoo.com/blog/yshoppingblog/457/gifts-for-your-pets
